Meet Naomi Rivkis

“I write speculative fiction that explores hopeful futures and the human capacity to build a better world.”

Naomi Rivkis was born in New York City in 1970, a time and place where anything seemed possible. She first learned to be an activist at the University of Chicago, and a writer at Clarion West Writer’s Workshop. A life-changing trip to Africa and a subsequent obsession with David Attenborough documentaries drew her to the world of evolutionary biology, and that’s about the only direct source she understands for any of the wild ideas that spawn her books.

She is part of a folk music band called Kaleidofolk, which performs mostly within the science fiction community, and one of the partners of the small indie publishing house, HyperSpace Express. In 2024 she emigrated to the Netherlands, where she lives now with her husband, her chosen brother, and an unreasonable number of unreasonable cats.
